THE DOGS
Timber
TimberTimber is a nine-year-old spayed female husky/shepherd mix who was surrendered to the AWS because her owners were going their separate ways and neither could bring her along. She is a bit timid at first but she will quickly warm up to you. She could easily live with gentle cats and dogs and also with children who would be quiet and respectful toward her. She loves car rides and walks. Water-chasing is also one of her favorite games. If you think that this beautiful girl would be a perfect match for you, please come and visit her today.
Pearl
PearlPearl is a beautiful girl looking for a family she can love unconditionally and enjoy many years of joy with. At just one year old, this bubbly gal is full of pizzazz, giving kisses and wiggling all over at the sight of a familiar face. She is a bit sensitive when meeting new people, but with a bit of time and a warm welcome she soon becomes her silly self. Excited to learn and grow with her new family, she can't wait to begin obedience classes with them. Sharing her previous home with kids, Pearl proved to be very tolerant, making it possible for her to share her home with children of all ages. Always up for a game of tag with her fellow canine friends, Pearl would really like to meet any potential brothers or sisters she may share her new home with, so bring your pooch by for a visit. This classy lady is sure to bring much-needed fun and zest for life to your family, so don't pass her by.
Bella
BellaExcited by the sight of any potential new friend, this spunky young gal is almost certain to catch your attention. Bella is sweet, energetic and a bundle of fun. Extremely smart and strongly food-motivated, she is very pleasing to work with and has a blast working for you. She is willing to share her new family with feline friends and may do okay with some dogs who can handle her zealous play. This two-and-half-year-old girl loves to run and play, so a regular daily exercise schedule will be essential for her to stay physically and mentally fit. Bella can't wait to find her forever home, where she will be treasured and loved for many years to come.
Deacon
DeaconReady to embark on his new journey in life, Deacon is hoping to find another home where he will be as deeply cherished and loved as he was in his last home. He appreciates the simple things life has to offer and will enjoy spending quality time relaxing with his new family. Sharing his previous home with other dogs, Deacon proves to be tolerant and might do just fine with another dog, so be sure to bring yours by for a play-date. He loves to go for rides in the car, chase balls and fetch sticks, so if you enjoy trips to the park Deacon would be great fun for you! A bit of a pushover with cats in the past, this big guy can share his home with one just fine. Although he does not feel comfortable around little ones, children over the age of 10 who can play ball with him and respect his space won't be a problem. He really is a terrific dog waiting for the perfect family to be blessed with his fun-loving spirit.
Huey
HueyStrikingly handsome and tenderly sweet, Huey is a one-year-old hound mix sure to warm your heart. He is a bit on the sensitive side and may seem shy when first meeting you, but when he warms up he'll snuggle and kiss you all over. As long as they do not try to boss him around, Huey finds the company of other dogs to be fun. He hasn't shared his home in the past with any feline friends, but has shown little interest in them here at the shelter so dog-savvy cats should be just fine for him. Always excited for a game of ball, Huey loves to play and can often be seen bouncing around the play yards with staff, having a grand old time. His shy nature makes for a better match with older children who can be involved with fun activities like daily walks. He loves to ride in the car and won't mind being your copilot anytime. Showing his silly and gentle personality, this smart guy can't wait to begin his new life with a wonderful family!
Indy
IndyAt only 10 months old, Indy is full of energy and can't wait to find his forever home where he can grow and learn - becoming the well-mannered boy he really is. Indy needs to be mentally and physically exercised daily, with jogs around the block, games of fetch or play dates with canine pals. These activities will keep him busy, enriching his life and exhausting him. He does well with dogs that can handle his rough play and enjoy being tuckered out. If you have a dog at home, be sure to bring him or her in for an introduction to see if they get along. Indy's excitable antics are too much for a cat to handle so we will not be asking him to share his home with one. He's a smart boy and can't wait to start obedience classes with his new family. These classes are a great opportunity for him to build a strong relationship with his new caregiver. Being the robust guy that he is, Indy finds older, rugged kids that have had prior experience living with dogs to be a good fit. He is an incredibly lovable dog that will do wonderfully with a family that is committed to his training and can give him the nourishing lifestyle he needs.
Cooper
CooperAt eight years old, this shepherd-husky mix will dance his way right into your heart with his wiggling feet and wagging tail. He is quite the character and sure knows how to charm those he meets. He is a laid-back fellow who enjoys gentle afternoon strolls or a walk on the beach and is asking for older, more relaxed kids to share his home with. He has previously lived with another dog, so be sure to bring your dog by to meet him, but we will not be asking Cooper to share his home with cats as he shows too much interest in them. He is the kind of boy that just brings a smile to your face and brightens your day; he really is a catch you don't want to miss.
Cowboy
CowboyCowboy is a three-and-a-half-year-old wire-haired Jack Russell who is full of energy and plans. Although he may like some dogs, he would like to be the only pet in the household as he tends to want to rule the roost with a strong paw. Cowboy is smart as a whip and would do well at taking some agility classes and continuing at home. He absolutely adores people, and older children are fine, but he cannot live with cats or small children. Come and meet this little spitfire!
THE CATS
Max
Max Silly and certainly very handsome, Max is a friendly feline looking for a family that he can share is comical character with. Enjoying the company of children in his previous home, Max would like children that will play gently. An all around happy-go-lucky guy, Max finds the simple things in life to be very rewarding. This three-and-a-half-year-old guy will enjoy watching birds from the window, napping in warm sunny places and having a good long scratch behind the ears. Both eager and willing to make the right family complete, Max is waiting patiently here to meet you.
Jack
JackJack is a two-and-a-half-year-old domestic medium hair kitty who came to the AWS as a stray. Pictured here licking his chops after a yummy bowl of crunchy treats, you can see he is truly a boy who appreciates his dining time. Please come for a visit and see if he is the kitty you've been looking for.
Geneva
GenevaGeneva came to the AWS very thin and with an infection on her chin that made it very difficult for her to eat. Soon after her arrival, AWS discovered that she was pregnant and she went into foster care for several weeks until the babies were weaned and old enough to b e adopted. While in foster care, Geneva also nursed two orphaned kittens with her own four! After everything she's been through, Geneva is now available for adoption. She enjoys feeling the breeze and fresh air while perched near a screened window and also likes cool tiled floors. Although she's not one to jump on furniture, she'll probably oblige when invited. She is now being cared for at Thee Privileged Pet in York. Please stop in and visit her!
OTHER PETS
Taz
TazTaz is a three-year-old sable ferret who came to the AWS when his previous family could no longer care for him. Ferrets are very social creatures and enjoy the companionship of other ferrets and people. They can easily become fast friends and will soon be entertaining you with their ferret antics. Very slinky and not as stinky as some may think, ferrets can easily slip into places you would think are surely non-accessible. Therefore, as ferrets need to be outside of their enclosure several hours a day, it is important to either ferret-proof a room or to supervise them. Having quite delicate systems, they should have a diet including few treats. They will live quite happily on ferret pellets and a daily vitamin and, of course, always lots of fresh water that you'll find they like to play in as well. Please come and visit with Taz!
If you are interested in adopting any of these animals or if you'd like to know who else is available for adoption, please visit the Animal Welfare Society at http://www.animalwelfaresociety.org/ or call us at 985-3244.
